2011-2012 Pillars Application

Dear Prospective Pillars Peer Educator,

Thanks for your interest in becoming a Peer Educator during the 2011-2012 academic year. On this post, you will find the following:

The Pillars Application link takes you to an online submission form where you will submit your application.  The Pillars Application Information link provides all of the necessary background information you will need to complete your application.  The Pillars Recommendation Guidelines link provides guidelines regarding the recommendation process.  The Pillars Application Timeline link provides a detailed timeline for the 2011-2012 Pillars application process.  The Pillars 2010-2011 Activities link provides a list of all of the Pillars Activities from the current school year.  It is designed to give you an idea of the events that you may be working toward as a Pillar in the coming year.

As you know, the deadline for the completed application including recommendations is Friday, April 8, 2011. Once your full application is submitted online and your recommendations are emailed to Mrs. McCarthy and Dr. Lopez-Morales, you will hear from us to schedule an interview between April 11 and April 22, 2011. We will have our final decisions made by Monday, April 25th. We hope that you can bring new ideas to the organization and help to further expand this young and growing group within the Worcester Academy community.

Anyone interested in pursuing any leadership position at WA will be required to attend a MANDATORY Student Leadership Information Session on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, from 12:10-12:45pm in the Student Center. Please note that if you are selected to be a Pillar, you will be expected to attend the Student Leadership Retreat.  The retreat will most likely occur during T3, but the final date remains TBD.  Once the school year begins the Pillars will meet weekly during the Monday lunch period.  We will also have a scheduled and required class once a week to expand on small group peer education initiatives.  The Pillar Peer Educator position requires a tremendous time commitment in order to learn the content of the material and the skills to teach your peers.  In these smaller groups Pillars will develop facets of the Health and Wellness curriculum, plan Pillars educational and social events, and collaborate regarding assembly presentations.  These small group periods are used to write Pillar Talk, the monthly Pillars article in the Vigornia, and the monthly Toilet Talk.  This class time has also been used to develop the Pillars WA Mash Site and to collaborate with other offices on campus such as College Counseling and Residential Life.
