Website Series Launching Shortly

The BOM is in the process of finalizing a set of websites to promote transparency within our organization and provide extracurriculars better opportunity for advertisement and expression. The road to creation for these sites has been one of idealization coupled with setbacks, but the final prototypes are on schedule to be launched within the coming weeks. Utilizing the easy to navigate Google Sites platforms, these websites will be located within WA’s Google Apps network, and will be completely available for public consumption. The Websites scheduled for public launch as of now are (in chronological order)

1. The BOM Info Center (seen above!)

This will be the one stop shop for all information produced by the BOM. From meeting minutes and agendas to unabridged proposals we send to the administration, the ultimate goal of this site is bring the BOM’s inner workings to the communities eyes. Expect to see more at Tuesdays assembly, complete with demonstrations  and a tour on the projector.

2. House Websites

These sites will work in partnership with the Info Center, and will be managed by the respective house heads. Located here will be the official much anticipated House Crests, house rosters, and up to date points displays. Additionally, and most importantly, these House sites will provide a calendar service, to which House members can subscribe and be always in the loop for the next tournaments and competitions. We’re looking to kick the House System up a notch, and these sites will be just the tool to facilitate the effort.

3. Club Template Sites

These websites will function a bit differently. Clubs looking to make the leap into cyberspace will find the perfect path using these “Template Sites” created by the BOM. With all the grunt work of web design done, club officials will simply have to copy in their own information and logos, thus creating a center for high paced advertising of accomplishments and events, not to mention unprecedented year round recruitment. These templates are still in developmental process, but as the BOM is looking to redouble its efforts to facilitate activity in the community, these sites will provide a perfect avenue of communication.

If you have any questions on websites or how we can help, please feel free to contact us! Either through email or just chilling on campus.

Keep in the know, stay frosty, and expect these sites to see a lot of traffic!

“You know what We know”, Open Forum ==> Open Meeting (12/6)

Today’s Open Forum was met with great success as students filled up Walkery Gallery (much thanks to the free pizza!) to share with us their thoughts on the First Trimester. Open Forums are an integral part of our campaign for transparency and give you, the student, a link of direct communication with the BOM. In order to facilitate involvement for those who were not able to attend, we will provide the official meeting “Minutes” shortly. These “Minutes” are a set of notes which document all the items discussed at the Forum/Meeting. This is a practice which we will begin to uphold on a regular basis, ensuring all of our information is in the public domain. A quick summary of the topics at the Forum is as follows:

1. AUP Amendment: What does it do? How does it work? Where do we go from here?

2. Dances: How to make them better? How to redefine a dance?

3. House System: 2nd Trimester, focus on individual House events, did someone say Quidditch!

4. Enhancing Communication between student body and administration

With the conclusion of this forum, we move into the Second stage of communal involvement, which is The Opening Meeting! This is a brand new opportunity which gives you a chance to observe our meeting and deliberation process which happens every week. While the open meeting does not allow for active student participation, it offers an inside look into our decision making, ensuring that “you know what we know”. The Agenda for this meeting will be a review of the points discussed at the Open Forum this Friday, giving us a chance to examine short term and long term resolutions to the topics. It is bring your own lunch (sorry, just like us), and the location will be announced over the weekend.

Thanks again to all those who participated in the Forum, and we hope to see you at the Open Meeting on Monday!

Enjoy the weekend,

The BOM
