Black History Month and Lunar New Year Contest

The Lunar New Year just passed and February is Black History Month.

 

In honor of both cultures,  The Diversity Department is holding a HAIKU contest!!

 

 

Students have until Friday February 18, 2011 to create their best haiku about black history or black culture.  

 

Haiku is a Japanese poetry style that contains 17 syllables in three lines.

 

First Line: Five Syllables

Second Line: Seven Syllables

Third Line: Five Syllables

Here’s an example:

I am first with five

Then seven in the middle –

Five again to end.

You can work alone or in pairs.  The top two haikus will win a SOUL FOOD DINNER at Mr. Glasgow’s house!

 

Please submit your haiku to Mr. Glasgow via email by Friday, February 18th.
