A new addition to Worcester Academy this year is the Hillsnacker Café. The Hillsnacker Café is a student run snack bar, which is located in the Levine student center. The café allows students to purchase snacks during their mid-morning break. Pat Ackerman ’11 said “not many kids eat breakfast now a days so it is good to have a snack between breakfast and lunch.” This mid morning snack helps replenish student’s energy and keeps them focused until lunch.
Each grade is designated a specific day to sell their own food during extra help. Everyday at the Hillsnacker there is a different snack for students, so they do not become bored with the choices. For example, on Mondays the class of 2014 sells an assortment of baked goods. On Tuesdays the class of 2013 sell their signature Capri Suns. On Thursdays’ the class of 2012 sells the most popular item of the week, bagels. And finally, on Fridays the class of 2011 finishes the week up by selling pretzels, pineapple slices, popcorn and sunny delight.
The student body at Worcester Academy has responded in a positive way to the new addition on campus this year. “The Hillsnacker is a perfect way to start off the day,” says Eric Sachse ’14. It is safe to say that the consensus on campus is that mid morning snacks are appreciated. However, some days have proved to be more popular than others, Jillian Turner ’12 proves that by saying “I love the bagels on Thursday!”
Although the Hillsnacker Café is a student run snack bar, the faculty supports it as well. Most of all the class deans really enjoy the idea because it provides the class officers an opportunity to fund-raise for their peers. The class of 2011 Dean, Jonathan Baker said “The Hillsnacker Café provides class officers a steady fund-raising sum of money each week.” With support from both the faculty and students the Hillsnacker Café has not only proved to be beneficial but it is safe to say that the Hillsnacker Café is here to stay.
