Pillars are a group of students for students based on Worcester Academy’s core values: honor, community, respect, challenge, and personal growth. Our goal is to unite the school community by bridging gaps between classes, cultures, day-boarding, new-returning, and faculty-student relations. As peers for peers, we are available and approachable to discuss or listen to any topics or issues that arise for WA students.
Pillars have addressed topics that students may otherwise feel uncomfortable talking about with adults and/or faculty. Recent topics inspired by requests from students and our observations of the needs on campus have included stress, mindfulness, time-management, approaching the college admission process, personal conflicts, relationship issues, substance use, and depression. These topics are addressed in different forums including the Health and Wellness classes, assembly presentations, advisory discussions, Chat N Chew lunch discussions, Vigornia articles in response to our suggestions box, and social gatherings. Pillars also plays an integral role in supporting the transition to Worcester Academy for new students by writing letters to incoming students over the summer, organizing and running the student-lead orientation in the fall, and offering informal opportunities for students to connect and bond outside of the classroom setting. The Pillars have been formed to serve and aid the student body. Each year the presentation and teaching topics will evolve based on the requests and needs of our peers.
